What started off as an opportunity for one to look good in a dress turned out to bring more thatn just a frown, more so-a nightmare. That was the plight of Aisha Nabukeera, a young girl who was hoodwinked into wearing a dress that had been immersed in fuel by her step mother.
As if the effect of fuel on the human body wouldn't be disastrous enough, the step mother went on to urge Nabukeera to ignite a tadoba (a locally made lantern) compelling her to get torched and burning amost all of her. If it wasn't for her incessant attempts to subside it and of course good samaritans in the neighbourhood, she couldn't hace saved her face.
"The moment I struck the match box, my dress caught fire. The fire spread fast and fiercely over my body which inflicted severe burns on me. At one point I almost thought I was going to die," she explains her ordeal. As misfortune would have it, even her would be ally - her father, sided with the step mother.
It wasn't until the generous and thoughtful compassion gestured by Frank Gashumba (benefactor) that she was able to undergo three excruciating operations for the reconstruction of her skin.
However, these resources and more coming in from sympathizers are still inadequate for her recovery. Any contributions and support will be highly appreciated and rightful association and accreditation to the Nabukeera cause will be wholesomely met. |
